Lofting, Hugh (John)

Autor e ilustrador estadounidense nacido en Inglaterra. Desde 1912 vivió en EE.UU. la mayor parte del tiempo. Es conocido por sus clásicos libros infantiles acerca del doctor Dolittle, un veterinario gentil y rechoncho que aprende el lenguaje de los animales para poder atenderlos de mejor forma. El personaje fue creado originalmente para entretener a sus hijos en las cartas que les enviaba desde el frente de batalla durante la primera guerra mundial. La historia del doctor Dolittle (1920) tuvo un éxito inmediato, y fue seguida de Los viajes del doctor Dolittle (1922, Medalla Newbery), El doctor Dolittle en la luna (1928) y Dr. Dolittle's Return [El regreso del doctor Dolittle] (1933), entre muchos otros volúmenes.
